I’m Afraid to trust

Trust! it’s a big word.
I am sure you don’t trust everyone you meet, yet you want to settle down. There comes a time in life where you have to search within, better yet, ask God to search your heart and see what causes the lack of trust. Of course, we can say people are not to be trusted, due to not keeping their word, not being truthful and by not being valued.

When you trust someone, you believe who they present themselves to be. Most times, if that image changes or they stop being what you believed, trust is broken.

At times, rushing into things does not give room for trust to be built. Rushing a relationship because you have an aim in mind can contribute to a broken heart, which in turn hinders you from trusting again.

Find out why?

The main thing now is to identify the core reason you are afraid to trust; What happened? Who was involved? What was the result? Where you hurt from it? What did you learn?

The answer can’t be ‘not to trust any man again!’.

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. Psalm 139:23

Being afraid to trust is not a blame game. There are things you need to change within and your approach to things. The bible shares, we should guard our heart. We guard it because out of it comes the issues of life. I believe God wants you to guard what you put into your heart, the words, the actions etc. because they will come out, and maybe spoil certain things for you.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

I know there are situations you can not control, which leads to a broken heart. I also believe God is a revealer, he shares little nuggets along the way that may have needed addressing or sharing. So it is important to be in a relationship because it pleases God and not because you have an agenda.

Lord, you have examined me and know all about me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. Psalm 139:1-2

At times trust issues come from childhood, it is an embedded factor in us that we ourselves can’t trace. We do not remember the first incident that became a stepping stone, though a few are more prominent. Here is where we need God to search us, heal us and restore us. And he is able to do so now!

Stop trusting yourself

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. He is the one you need to trust, you don’t even need to trust yourself. I mean you can not rely on yourself to know who is Mr. Right or even know the next step in your life. God wants you to have confidence in him and not your feelings, emotions, experiences or people.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

Trust God’s leading

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

To know Gods leading is to spend time with God in his word and prayer, this will strengthen your heart. God will come first, he will be the one you seek counsel from, he will be the one rely on. Faith and trust work together. Reading the word builds your faith which in turn guides you and helps you to know who to trust. Relying on the outer appearance has no substance but what you can’t see is where the truth lays.

For we live by faith, not by sight. 2Corinthians 5:7

Living by faith means you may not have everything checked off your list straight away, some will be checked off once you chose to settle together and work further on the relationship,  plan a business or apply to that job.

I am trusting God now

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3

I want you to understand something here, you did not trust God because you did not trust people. When you are afraid to trust, trust God.

God is your leader and he will lead you to the right man, the one without a facade. A man after God’s heart, a man that is ready to deal with his own issues and not brush them under the carpet. He knows your where you are going, how you will get there when you will get there, who you need to meet on your way there and who is going to be with you when reaching there.

My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Psalm 62:7

Jump over the hurdles in front of you, yesterday you couldn’t trust but today you are trusting God with your life and everything that is to be part of it. No more fear, God is near.

God wants you to have an abundant life, never think He wants anything less for you.
